Which Personal Training Certification is Best?

The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) is the gold standard for third-party personal training certifications. Some of the most popular programs in the industry include NASM, ACE, Fitness Mentors, and ISSA. Fitness Mentors offers both Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and Online Trainer certifications that can be taken online and at home, with a time limit of 120 minutes to complete the 100-question exam. The CPT has one of the highest approval rates in the industry, with a success rate of around 85% for first-time users.

If you don't pass the exam on your first attempt, a new free trial is available if you choose their Pro package. The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) CPT exam requires candidates to be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must also have a current CPR and AED certification. The exam consists of 140 graded questions and 15 non-scored multiple-choice questions, covering the material described in the NSCA Certification Manual.

ACE, ISSA, and NASM offer some of the best in-house study materials. If any of these jobs seem like something you would love, consider becoming a personal trainer in New York. Fitness Mentors is 100% online, has more study materials than many of the other certifications, offers personal tutoring, and provides access to instructors. ACE offers separate certification programs for personal trainers, group fitness instructors, health coaches, and medical exercise specialists.

The National Institute of Personal Training New York provides quality professional development through hands-on experience. If you have fitness experience or have a related college degree, you may not need test preparation materials, but it is recommended that you prepare properly to take the test and begin working as a personal trainer. In general, most of the reviewed certifications give you the option of taking an NCCA accredited exam, require a high school diploma and CPR certification, and will give you a basic understanding of physical training, program design, behavior modification, nutrition, and best practices to follow as a personal trainer. Exercise professionals can specialize in personal training, strength conditioning & sports nutrition and fitness.

Certificate holders can also continue their education by pursuing advanced specializations such as physical nutrition, group training, weight loss training, senior fitness, women's fitness, and more. The Action Personal Trainer certification will provide you with all the skills needed to train, educate and motivate personal training clients. We cover all the bases from human physiology, anatomy, nutrition and diet to all aspects of starting and running your personal fitness business. There are many certifications online that are not accredited by the NCCA such as the American Sports and Fitness Association Personal Training Certification. While some may be reputable and full of useful information they may not be recognized as acceptable forms of certification if you want to work in a gym or health care center. Most gyms or health care facilities require an NCCA accredited certification to be employed as a certified personal trainer. The personal trainer program uses self-guided (online) or guided instruction (workshops, training schools, and universities) to teach this curriculum that includes physical assessments and tests, results-based training methodologies, programming models for various segments of the population, nutrition and weight management and advanced instruction in resistance training, corrective exercise, flexibility and aerobic conditioning.
